Step 1 — Upload Your Photo

Step 2 — Adjust the Threshold
The Threshold slider controls which pixels are treated as part of the subject versus the background:
- Higher threshold — fills more of the image in black. Good if the subject is slightly blending into the background.
- Lower threshold — keeps only the most clearly defined subject area. Good for photos with strong contrast where you want a tight, clean edge.
Start in the middle and drag while watching the preview. The goal is a solid, filled silhouette with a clean edge and no stray black patches in the background.
Step 3 — Check the Preview
Look at the preview and check for two things:
- Background noise — small black patches outside the main shape. Reduce the threshold or try removing the background first at remove.bg.
- Holes in the silhouette — white gaps inside the filled shape. Increase the threshold slightly to fill them in.
Step 4 — Download SVG or PNG
- SVG — best for Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio, and laser cutters. Clean vector paths that scale to any size.
- PNG (transparent background) — best for overlaying your silhouette onto other images in Canva, Photoshop, or for printing.
