How to play sudoku

  1. Fill every empty square. In a 9ร—9 puzzle use the numbers 1 to 9; in the kids puzzles use 1โ€“4 or 1โ€“6.
  2. No repeats. Each number appears once in every row, once in every column and once in every bold box.
  3. Look for the easy ones first. Find a row, column or box that is nearly full and work out which number is missing.
  4. Use pencil marks. On hard and expert puzzles, write small candidate numbers in the corner of a square and rub them out as you go.

Which level should I print?

  • Ages 5โ€“7: 4ร—4 sudoku for kids.

  • New to sudoku: easy, or large print if you prefer big numbers.
