Paper Snowflake Templates โ 12 Free Printables + SVG

Twelve free paper snowflake templates to print, fold and cut โ four easy, four medium and four tricky. Each template shows exactly where to cut, with a picture of the snowflake you will get when you unfold it, so there are no surprises.
The templates are drawn at actual size for a square of ordinary printer paper (trim a US Letter or A4 sheet into a square), folded into the classic six-pointed snowflake shape. The finished designs are also here as SVG cut files for Cricut and other cutting machines.

4 easy templates
Big, simple cuts that are easy for small hands and safety scissors. Includes the folding guide.

4 medium templates
More notches and a few holes for a lacier snowflake. Good from about age 8.

4 tricky templates
Lots of small cuts for a delicate, lacy result. Use small sharp scissors or a craft knife.

All 12 templates
Every template plus the folding guide and a gallery page showing each finished snowflake.

SVG cut files
The 12 finished snowflakes as SVG files for Cricut, Silhouette, Glowforge or any laser โ each one a single connected shape.
How to make a paper snowflake
- Make a square. Fold one corner of a Letter or A4 sheet down to the opposite edge and cut off the strip. Thin printer paper works best โ card is too thick for 12 layers.
- Fold it into a narrow point. Fold the square in half corner to corner, mark the middle of the long edge, then fold the two sides in so they overlap in thirds. Fold in half once more.
- Trim and line up the template. Trim the top straight. Cut out the template, line its two fold edges up with the folded sides of your paper โ centre point at the tip โ and hold it on with a little tape.
- Cut and unfold. Cut away the shaded parts and keep the white. Unfold slowly, then press the snowflake flat under a heavy book for an hour.
Ideas for your snowflakes
- Window snowflakes: stick them to glass with a dab of water or a loop of tape.
- Garland: thread a dozen on a string for a mantel or a classroom ceiling.
- Cards and gift wrap: glue a small snowflake to the front of a card or on top of a plain brown parcel.
- Cutting machines: cut the SVG versions from glitter card, felt or vinyl for ornaments and decals.
Questions
Why does my snowflake have six points?
Real snowflakes have six arms, so the paper is folded into twelve layers โ six sections, each folded in half. The template is one of those twelve layers.
What paper works best?
Thin copy paper, tissue paper or origami paper. Thicker paper is hard to cut through all twelve layers at once.
Which template should children start with?
The easy set, numbers 1 to 4. The cuts are big curves and triangles that safety scissors can manage. The tricky set is best for teens and adults.
Can I make the snowflakes bigger?
Yes. Start with a bigger square of paper and scale the template up by the same amount when you print. The snowflake grows with the paper.
Do the SVG files work in Cricut Design Space?
Yes. Each SVG is one solid, connected shape, so it uploads as a single cut layer.
