Heart Chocolate Box + Lid Template

Nothing says it quite like a heart. This classic heart-shaped chocolate box assembles from a heart base, a wrap-around wall that curves smoothly around the lobes and down to the point, and a lift-off heart lid — perfect for Valentine’s truffles, wedding favors, or a few homemade chocolates. Cut it in kraft for rustic charm or in red cardstock for a bold statement.

How to assemble

  1. Cut — Cut the heart base, the heart lid and the long wall strips. Solid black lines are cut paths.
  2. Score — Run the dashed score lines — the bottom tab strip and the vertical fold marks help the wall curve cleanly.
  3. Fold — Fold the bottom tabs in and gently curve each wall strip around the heart, bending a little more at the top notch and the bottom point.
  4. Glue — Glue the wall seams at the notch and tip, fold the bottom tabs under and glue them to the base, then build the lid skirt the same way.

Cardstock tip: Use 65–110 lb (176–300 gsm) cardstock. 65 lb folds easily for small boxes; 80–110 lb gives larger boxes and lids more structure. Always score before folding.

Decorating & Gift Ideas

The heart box is built for one job above all others: holding chocolates on Valentine’s Day. Line it with a paper doily or a twist of tissue, fill it with a handful of truffles or foil-wrapped hearts, and you have a gift that looks like it came from a chocolatier. Beyond February, it is lovely for anniversaries, engagements, Mother’s Day, and “thinking of you” notes — tuck in a folded love letter or a piece of jewelry instead of candy. The heart-shaped lid practically decorates itself: a red or gold foil cardstock, a vinyl monogram in the center, or a small ribbon rose at the dip of the heart is all it takes. Cut the lid in a contrasting color so the heart shape reads from across the room.

File Formats & Compatibility

The heart box and lid download as an SVG and a DXF. Cricut Design Space and Silhouette Designer Edition use the SVG; the free Silhouette Studio and Glowforge-style lasers use the DXF. The curved sides of the heart need accurate creasing, so the score lines are kept on a separate layer — set them to Score so the wall bends around the point and the two humps without buckling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it come with a heart-shaped lid?

Yes. The template includes a heart base and a matching heart lid that lifts off, so it opens like a proper chocolate box.

How do I get the curved wall to follow the heart shape?

Score the side strip well. The fine creases let the wall bend smoothly around the point and the two curves; an unscored strip will kink.

Is it food safe for chocolates?

Cardstock itself is not food-grade, so line it with a paper candy cup, doily, or food-safe wrap before adding chocolates that touch the surface.

Can I make a bigger heart box?

Yes — scale the template up for more chocolates, and use 100 lb cardstock so the longer curved wall stays firm.
